The Colt 1991 Series pistol is a direct descendent of the original Colt 1911A1. The 1991 Commander is a single-action, Series 80-style pistol is built on either a carbon steel or stainless steel frame with a blued or stainless finish, respectively. It maintains several classic features, including a long trigger, a flat mainspring housing and the original style recoil spring system. Other features include:
- A solid aluminum trigger;
- white-dot, high-profile sights;
- a lowered ejection port;
- a spur hammer;
- a standard grip safety; and
- a standard thumb safety.
