Manufacturer’s Description
The Ruger American Pistol is a semiauto handgun built on a glass-filled nylon frame with a stainless steel slide, and chambered in 9mm or .45 ACP. Other features include:
- A modular, wraparound, textured and checkered, interchangeable grip system for small, medium and large hand sizes;
- an accessory rail;
- Novak LoMount Carry three-dot sights dovetailed into the slide;
- an ambidextrous slide stop;
- an ambidextrous magazine release;
- an internal, automatic sear-block safety;
- a trigger safety;
- a black nitride finish on the slide; and
- two nickel-teflon plated steel magazines.
Ruger offers this pistol with either no manual thumb safety, or with an ambidextrous thumb safety.
You can take-down this pistol without pulling the trigger. A hard plastic case comes with the gun.
Also, Ruger says:
- The trigger features a short takeup with a positive reset;
- the barrel cam, low-mass slide, low center of gravity and low bore axis reduce recoil; and

Outstanding firearm. Clean lines. Well balanced. Excellent trigger. Has everything I need and nothing that I don’t.
It is the most accurate pistol I own.
