Summary: The manufacturer’s description and specs, the average user rating, and pricing info for the Uberti 1848 Dragoon revolvers.
Uberti’s 1848 Dragoon is a .44 caliber black powder percussion revolver. Four models are available, matching the four originally produced. Eli Whitney, Jr. manufactured the first run of 1848 Dragoons for Colt at his Whitneyville factory in Connecticut. The single-action revolver was a transitional model that improved on the Colt Walker. This earliest Dragoon had an improved loading lever, a shorter cylinder, and weighed less. Small improvements continued, separating each of the Dragoon models. Next came the 1st Model Dragoon, with oval bolt slots. The 2nd Model Dragoon used squared cylinder bolt slots. The 3rd Model Dragoon single actions incorporated round trigger guards.
All Dragoons are built on a case-hardened frame with a brass trigger guard. The Whitneyville model features a steel backstrap, while the other three models feature a brass backstrap. Other features include a loading lever and a walnut grip.
Dragoons were the first Colt revolvers with a latch for the loading lever that prevented the lever from falling during firing. All Dragoon models have integrated loading cut-outs for easy and secure seating of the percussion caps. The Dragoons inherited this design element from the Walker.
